All Childline volunteers are trained to listen and to and empower young people over phone call, text and online chat. Each Childline volunteer completes a weekly four-hour shift. See below for more information about volunteering at a location near you.
Can I work for Childline?
If you’re over 16, you can volunteer for Childline. There are lots of ways you can volunteer: answering our switchboard. becoming a volunteer counsellor.
Can a 16 year old call Childline?
Childline works with children and young people until they turn 19 years of age. If you’ve already have been involved with social services or CAMHS, you might already know that normally at 18 years of age people move out of services like these and into ‘adult services’.
Can Childline call the police?
Childline wants to make sure you’re safe and sometimes we work with the police to do that. But most of the time we don’t tell anyone what you say to us. … We can keep it confidential even if you tell us you’re doing something illegal like stealing or taking drugs – we don’t work with the police in that way.
How many calls do Childline get a day?
Sometimes so much that it can stop young people getting through. Because of this we put a limit on the number of times someone can call us from the same phone number in a single day. This is 10 calls in a 24 hour period.
What happens if I call Childline?
Childline is always there to support you. When you call our free 0800 11 11 number you’ll come through to our switchboard. You’ll then speak to someone who’ll make sure you’d like to talk to a counsellor before putting you into the queue. Once you are in the queue it’s usually only a few minutes until someone answers.
Does Childline tell your parents?
ChildLine is anonymous and confidential – this means you don’t need to tell anyone that you’re signing up for an account or that you’re talking to us. ChildLine is a private space where you can talk about things you don’t feel able to say to anyone else – and this can include your parents if you wish.
Can you be a volunteer Counsellor?
Agencies that offer specialist counselling services, select and train volunteers who go on to provide voluntary counselling within the organisation. As the training is usually free, the organisation will expect a certain level of commitment from the volunteer, in exchange.
Does Childline get paid?
Voluntary work won’t usually pay, but they may be able to pay things like your travel.
Can I kick my child out at 16 UK?
